Poland has been the main focus of the GCF to date and we have supported two orphanages there.

The Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy Orphanage in Czestochowa, desperately needed special sanitary ware for disabled children. Due to the successful fundraising events of the GCF founder Noreen Bavister not only was this accomplished but with money to spare, the orphanage was refurbished.

Following on from the success of this project Noreen visited The Children’s Home “My Family” in Pralkowce, run by the CSMA (Congregation of St Micheal the Archangel) in February 2005 with Fr Piotr Prusakiewicz and found the children needed items such as bedding, clothes, shoes, etc. Touched by the plight of the orphans Noreen set about raising more funds with the help of her colleagues at BP.

In June 2005 a 45 foot lorry was kindly organised by Walkers International to deliver donated bedding, clothes, shoes, toys, books, pens and computers to the orphanages. Due to the overwhelming response it was also possible to provide supplies to a special needs centre for young adults with learning disabilities in Krakow.

Through various events and personal donations we have helped raise money towards a new gym for the orphanage in Pralkowce, which was left unfurnished for seven years. It can now be enjoyed by many children living in the local area not just those living at the orphanage. Noreen was invited to the opening ceremony in June 2007.
